Willand School have been working with the children over the last 2 weeks promoting exercise in the classroom thanks to the help of James Marshall from Excelsior Athletic Training. The school is keen to promote 5in5 which is 5 exercises done over a five minute period and this has proven to help with the childrens concentration and performance throughout the day, it is extremly important to promote this kind of activity as they can be sat still for quite long periods of time.
On friday 5th December James ran a competition for the children who wanted to enter after the two week training period, it was ran over a half hour period and was judged on effort and creativity. There were 103 children thats a third of the school who entered on the day and gave up part of their lunch break to be in with a chance. The prize was the FA Cup ball fully signed by all the players from round 3 which saw Willand Rovers win 3-2 against Aveley and the ball was kindly sponsored by Ryan Squires of Walter H Squires & Son. Ryan kindly offered the ball back to the club to be used with the school for one of the children to have the opportunity to win.
The children throughly enjoyed the challenge and saw some great efforts put in. Ryan Squires presented the ball to the winner along side Scott Rogers manager of Willand Rovers first team. Scott said “It was a great thing for Ryan to do offering the ball back to be won as I know he paid a hefty price for it and I’d like to thank him for that, it’s so important for children at this age to get proper excerise and they all seemed to have fun doing it”.
Willand Rovers also wished to thank Ryan Squires for the ball along with James Marshall and the school for coming up with such a great way to win it for the children.
