Willand Rovers were knocked out of the FA Vase on Saturday after a 2-0 loss to Plymouth Parkway, although manager Russell Jee admitted the better team won.
Two second half goals were enough to condemn Rovers to defeat against a side who play one level lower on the football pyramid.
Player-manager Jee said that he had no complaints over the result and felt that Parkway did enough to go through.
“It’s just one of those games,” he said. “I said to the boys that we have 40 league games and potentially one Vase game, so you need to turn up for the Vase, otherwise it can be a long old year.
“It was literally just one of those days where we didn’t turn up and were flat, whereas they did what they did and deservedly won the game.”
Jee admits he is disappointed to be out of the competition but is keen to see his side bounce back quickly. He explained: “I do like the Vase, as it’s a great competition to be in at this level and, the further you go, the more it brings people together.
“We can’t dwell on it, though, and we need to move on to Cadbury Heath next Saturday, where we lick our wounds and go again.
“We need to bounce back and it’s a shame we don’t have a midweek game. We’ll have a good training session, though, and we’ll go again raring to go for Saturday.
“Cadbury have arguably got one of the best strikers in the league in Matt Huxley; any chance he gets, he’ll put away, so we’ll have to be on it against him.
“We’ll play our own way, though and hopefully it will be good enough on the day.”
Thank You
Dave & Diana from Lloyds bank who both ran the Cardiff half marathon today were at Willand Rovers Football Club yesterday collecting for Children In Need. Willand Rovers’ defence impresses Russell Jee in 1-0 win over Brislington to make it four in a row

Willand Rovers’ defence took the plaudits from manager Russell Jee after they kept a clean sheet to make it four wins in a row with a 1-0 victory away to Brislington.
Brett Worbey’s deflected free-kick gave Rovers victory as Jee’s side kept a third successive clean sheet on the road.
That pleased the player-manager, who felt that, perhaps unlike in Wednesday’s 2-1 win at home to Steet, his side deserved the points.
“It’s another solid defensive performance,” Jee enthused. “We were very resolute in keeping a clean sheet and it was different to the Street game, as I felt Street deserved a point, but on Saturday it was a clean sheet away from home against a side who chuck bodies forward.
“You expect the opposition to have a lot of ball away from home, which they did, but they didn’t really hurt us as they didn’t get behind the lines.”
Jee added: “I said August would be the toughest month and that’s how it’s looking but we take each game as it comes.
“We set out to win every game and see where that takes us.”
The Silver Street boss reserved praise for captain Worbey, who now has three goals in two matches.
“Bretty Worbey was the pick of the bunch on Saturday and deserved his goal,” Jee said.
“He did everything and drove the boys on. He covered most of the ground, picked passes, put tackles in and put his body on the line. It was an all-round good team performance, though.”

Willand Rovers’ win over Bristol Manor Farm shows side is starting to gel says Russell Jee
Willand Rovers’ 1-0 win over Bristol Manor Farm is evidence of side gelling, says Russell Jee after second successive victory over highly-rated opposition
Tom Bath’s 38th minute goal gave Rovers the three points over Manor Farm and secured their first consecutive wins of the season after previously beating Bitton.
Silver Street chief Jee feels this is proof his side are improving after a slow start to the campaign.
“It’s small steps, one game at a time and it doesn’t happen overnight.” revealed Jee. “I said right at the start that it will take time for the team to gel but gradually we will get there.
“We just need to keep building, as we’re looking good away from home. We’ve got a tough game against Street at home on Wednesday night and they’ve very potent in front of goal, so we’ll see what that brings.”
Jee was impressed with his side’s defensive resolve in the win over Manor Farm, saying he was pleased to keep a clean sheet.
He said: “It was another pleasing win and the most pleasing thing was another clean sheet on the road. If you go to Bitton and Manor Farm and keep clean sheets on the road, it’s a massive plus.
“There was a willingness to keep a clean sheet, like at Bitton, and we put our bodies on the line.
“Overall, it was a very, very solid, hard-working performance again.”

Following their latest success, the Rovers Under-15s’ management have received a note from the coach of the Falcons and it reads:
“Can I say thank you very much for the game and the wonderful reception and hospitality we had from your parents and club.
I have seen many teams come and go in this League but none as accomplished as your team I will make a point of coming to watch them if we don’t have a game . You have a fantastic squad there … my lad couldn’t shut
up on the way home about how good they were !
Due to the wonders of homework I have got the game on the site now for your team to watch ! I think you play our A team in a few weeks. I wish you well for the rest of the season.”
Well done to Tony Badcott and his ‘next generation’ of Silver Street stars – the Rovers conveyor belt continues to grow!
