WILLAND ROVERS are set to upgrade their PA system thanks to an £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions initiative.
The club was selected by the housebuilder to receive the cash, which will go towards a new PA system at the club.
Officials from the club say the system would help improve the facilities which are hired out to the local community for events.
Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.
The club are also celebrating after being awards £1,500 from TAP funding which was topped up by Cullompton Parish Council and a further £500 from the locality fund.
Caroline Dummett of Willand Rovers FC, said: “We have become a real part of the community and we are always trying to improve what we have to offer to others. The school have also used us for the yearly sports day and this new PA system would be great for them to use for this event.
“The club is run by a group of volunteers work many hours each week to keep this community facility up and running and raising such a big amount of money has been very hard work.
“With the help of Persimmon Homes’ donation we will have enough to purchase the new system and have it installed ready for all to benefit from.”
Nina Hester, sales director for Persimmon Homes South West, said: “Willand Rovers Football Club has displayed a great amount of dedication to the local community.
“The club is of great value to the local area and we wanted to support them in any way we could.
“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time, even if they have won previously, to apply again.”

A Win for Willand Composters
A win for Willand Composters!!
Willand Community Composters were more than pleased at the weekend when they were presented with a cheque for £200 from chairman Mike Mitchell of Willand Rovers Football Club. Last year saw the composting group suffer servere loss and damage when the unit they have in Willand was broken into late last year, Tony Mander from the group said ” We are very grateful to the football club for this kind donation, it wasnt at all expected and it will help us with the repairs”. Many of the composting group are keen followers of the football club and regulary attend the matches week in week out and can be heard from quite a distance supporting the lads. Mike Mitchell from the club said ” We believe in puting back into the community and
when we heard about the damage that had been caused thought they could do with some help”. Rovers ended the day well with a 4 – 1 win over Bishops
