Malvern Town v Willand Rovers

The business end of the season push continues for Rovers as we make the journey up to Worcestershire this weekend to take on Malvern Town in the Southern Football League Division One South with a 3 pm KO!

Last time out, Willand welcomed Didcot to Silver Street, where both sides were looking to build on recent form. A well-contested game had to go down to the wire and it would be Rovers who took the spoils as Bailey Kempster’s late strike past Bedwell sealed all three points in a crucial home win.

However, the focus shifts onto promotion chasing Malvern who will certainly be looking to play catch-up with the front runners Frome who have made a dent in the league table on Saturday. Lee Hooper’s men have been on the up in the last few seasons with an ambition to get into the Southern Premier League as the end goal.

Their most recent outing was a trip to the New Forest to take on Bashley. The distance didn’t spoil the fun for the Hillsiders as Dion Molyneux and Ryan Brunt ensured away victory on the afternoon. As for our last meeting with the hosts this weekend, we cast our eyes back to the final day of last season where Rovers were defeated 4-1 at Langland Stadium with Malvern confirming their place in the playoffs as a result in the afternoon.

One to watch for the claret and blue army would have to be club captain Joe Tumelty who has been a big part of the puzzle to Malvern’s success this season with his leadership on the pitch steering the side to the right side of the table and with a shout of a first promotion to the seventh tier.
