Falcons A U16’s  1 – 12  Willand U16’s

The Rovers U16’s consolidated their good start to the new 1st Division campaign against the Falcons team from Norton Fitzwarren.
It was a typically cagey start as both teams sought the early advantage on a hot and barmy October day. The game though sparked into life on 20 minutes when new Rovers wing man Brandon Simsek latched onto an exquisite pass from Garreth Blackmore and finished well to give Rovers a 1-0 lead. With the lead secured Willand began to open up and play their free flowing brand of football and within 3 minutes it was 2-0 when Simsek delivered a 40 yard Crossfield pass for Chaz Dodd to smash home.
Goals 3 & 4 were both created from throws from firstly the versatile and impressive Haydn Tucker which saw Tom Prout run half the length of the pitch before scoring and then from a trademark Garreth Blackmore long throw into the box which was volleyed home by Chaz Dodd for a 4-0 interval lead.
The second half was barely 3 minutes old when Oscar Walsh scored his first of the game from an acute angle. Sloppy defending then saw Falcons gain one back although that was a rare blip in what was a defensive masterclass with Tristan Hawkins and Kai Morgan keeping both flanks shut so enabling goalkeeper Ben Gubb to have a relatively trouble free afternoon with the exception of two stunning saves. Centre Half’s Chris Badcott and Matt Futcher also ensured the back door was kept shut throughout.
This defensive solidity coupled with the tireless work in midfield from Captain Tom Jeacock, Jacob Turner and Tom Prout (who has been a fantastic addition to the team) saw two further goals scored from Jacob Turner and Matt Futcher to make it 7-1 with 20 minutes remaining. However, despite the game being won the remainder of the match belonged to Oscar Walsh who found two additional gears against a tiring Falcons as he scored four individual goals of quality and also laid on the hat trick for Chaz Dodd to round off a FIVE goal and Five star performance from Walsh who is destined for greater things in his future football career.
Man of the Match was Jacob Turner who showed his quality, drive and determination in centre midfield throughout the game. Although Branden Simsek ran him very close for MOM.
Goals were shared out on the day between Walsh 5, Dodd 3, Turner 1, Futcher 1, Simsek 1 and Prout 1
