Taunton and District League promotion and the league title were secured by Rovers Under-15s despite having five key players missing (including leading scorer Sam Ayres, Captain Tom Jeacock and club full backs Ryan Borkowski, Harry Taylor and Oli Billings) and only a bare 12 available to cross swords in the Mid Devon derby against Tiverton based Moors.
With a point needed to secure promotion and a win to secure a first league title the Willand team made a positive start getting on the front foot straight from the kick off. However, despite a great deal of pressure the age old story regards failing to take your chances coming back to bite you rang true as on ten minutes it was the visitors who took the lead after some hesitant defending allowed the Moors forward a sniff at goal giving Willand goalkeeper Ben Gubb no chance. However, the Willand back line of Haydn Tucker, Matt Futcher, Chris Badcott and Aiden Harrison ensured there would be no repeat of the Falcons game when three quick goals were shipped by then establishing a solid foundation for the team to get back on top. Five minutes later the award of a penalty superbly dispatched by captain for the day Chris Badcott saw Willand back on parity with Moors.
There then began a period of play in which the Willand midfield took a grip on the opposition akin to a Python suffocating the life out of its prey. The centre midfield three of Josh Herbert, Jacob Turner, and Charlie Dodd took the game to the opposition. Chaz Dodd making his Silver Street debut was beginning to become unplayable and his link up play with Oscar Walsh ended with Willand taking a 2-1 lead when Dodd danced through the Moors defence and finished in some style.
Not to be outdone frontman Garreth Blackmore and Kai Morgan combined for a quick fire double from Morgan to turn the game around seeing Willand leading 4-1 at the half time break.
A few positional changes at the break saw Aiden Harrison moving into midfield and the ever versatile Jacob Turner moving into the defence. Willand continued where they left off with the second half being 40 minutes of total domination culminating in three further goals from Chaz Dodd, Christian Whales and the pick of the bunch being a thunderous thirty yard screamer from Oscar Walsh. The final score was Willand 7 Moors 1 and a tenth straight league win was gained.
Two more league games and a League Cup Final remain for this superb group of players who have had a season to remember.
Goals were shared out on the day between, Badcott 1 (pen), Walsh 1, Dodd 2, Morgan 2, and Whales 1
