Match Report

We were on the road again, this time against Westbury United.  This was a slightly different game to normal as due to the possibility of England playing at 3pm on the Saturday the Southern League changed all kick off times to 12.30pm, so we all had to be up bright and early to catch the coach at 9am.

The first 10 minutes was relatively quite with both teams just probing each other, then Will Richards put Lewis Hill through down the left, however his cross to Ollie Bray was blocked for a corner.

In the 13th minute Will Richards put Dan Koita through down the left this time, he beat his man but a second defender was there to clear up.

Then in the 17th minute Westbury’s right winger got in behind but his cross across the box went out for a goal kick.

In the 22nd minute Will Richards whips a corner in to the near post, Bailey Kempster got his head to it but it went over the bar, it was a good chance.

Then in the 28th minute Westbury from nothing took the lead.  The ball was cut back to Westbury’s no.10 Walton who shot from about 25 yards out, in it went over the head of George Burton who was rooted to his line and into the top corner.

In the 44th minute Ashleigh Hewitt won the ball back, passed to Will Richards who turned his man and slid Ryan Guppy in for a shot. It was well hit but went just over.

Half time

Westbury United 1-0 Willand Rovers

Second half got underway and it was all Willand but every second ball was cut out by Westbury. Willand could not string more than two passes together without losing the ball.

In the 58th minute Willand made a double substitution; new on loan from Dorchester Town Michael Lilley came on for Bailey Kempster & Dan Koita made way for Josh Baker.

In the 62nd minute Westbury’s no.14 Higdon got a head on a cross, George Burton was there to gather the ball.

In the 67th minute Willand made their third substitution Lewis Hill made way for Douglas Camilo

In the 74th minute Westbury’s no.8 Stradling shot from 25 yards, Burton tipped behind for a corner. It was a great save.

Then in the 76th minute another great save from Burton from a looping shot from close to the half way line.

Full-time

Westbury took all three points.

This was not a good day for Willand we were the better team for major parts of the game.  However, we could not manage any real intent in front of the goal.  We will need to brush ourselves off and get ourselves ready for our next encounter which is Saturday 10th at home against Evesham United
