Match Report

We are now into October and we finally got our first away Saturday game of the season.

We were away to Hamworthy United FC and they have a 4G pitch which definitely gave them a massive advantage before the game even began.

We got under way and we were on the attack for the first kick. We had two corners in the first three minutes but nothing came of them.

In the 9th minute Hamworthy had their first chance of the game fortunately good defending stopped them scoring.

Hamworthy then got a corner in the 13th minute but like our own it came to nothing.

The game played out for the next 10 minutes with both teams playing the ball high. It almost felt like tennis as it just went one end to the other again and again.

In the 27th minute Willand got their third corner which was headout for a fourth corner which unfortunately came to nothing

In the 29th minute Willand had a really good chance to go 1-0 up, Dougie Camilo ran through the defence and passed to Stampy who was then one on one with the Hamworthy keeper but he shot over the bar.

This was almost like a wake up call to Hamworthy who went on the front foot and in the 31st minute a shot from just inside the area was saved by George Burton who pulled out a great save. Hamworthy was not done yet, in the 35th minute they came on the attack again, this time they got into the 6 yard box but George was there again with another great stop.

Willand replied with a nice run up the wing only for Adam Kelly to be brought down, Willand got a free kick, Will Richards tried to take it quickly but the Hamworthy keeper was in the right place and he saved it easily.

First half ends 0-0

Second half gets underway and Hamwothy are straight on the attack and had another close range shot, George was there again to make the block.

In the 50th minute Willand made their first substitution of the game with Dean Stamp making way for Josh Baker.

In the 52nd minute a Hamworthy player fell and twisted his ankle, the Injury was so bad the player had to be stretchered off.

Hamworthy got a free kick in the 60th minute just outside the area but Adam Kelly blocked the shot.

In the 65th minute Willand got another free kick, Will Richards shot but the Hamworthy keeper cleared.

Willand started to really press and got another corner in the 66th minute which was played behind for another corner but like all the rest it came to nothing.

Willand made their second substitution of the game in the 67th minute, with Lewis Hill making way for Jamie Hearsey

Willand continued to press and in the 70th minute won a free kick on the side of the 18 yard box, Will Richards took but it came to nothing.

The game then became a little scrappy with again a lot of high balls just going back and forth.

Final whistle

Hamworthy United 0 – 0 Willand Rovers

This was a very frustrating game to watch as both teams could have won it. Dean Stamp missed the chance of the game but George Burton pulled out some spectacular saves.

Up next we are away midweek again on Tuesday 11th against Bideford AFC 7.45pm kick off.
