Rovers bow out of the SFL Challenge Cup after losing an entertaining encounter with Truro City.
The clinical finishing and more decisive attacking play was the difference between the two sides tonight. Truro, fielding a much changed side from their last league match, began well and on 5 minutes open the scoring with Euan Pollock slooting the ball home after being put through by Stewart Yetton. 0-1.
Willand responded immediately, Mani Skett making a mazy run down the left wing, rounding the right back he cut into the box and fired a fierce shot past Coxhead, beating him at his near post from a tight angle. 1-1.
The game ebbed and flowed with Rovers having good possession but not really creating any scoring opportunities. They were caught out on 17 minutes when the ball was given away cheaply in midfield; it fell to Yetton who ran through and slotted the ball past Burton. 1-2.
Rovers created a glorious chance for Louis J-C to equalise on 27 minutes; good work down the right by Josh Searle & Travis Yule ended with a cross to the unmarked LJ-C on the left; Louis brought the ball down well but dragged his shot wide of the target with only the keeper to beat.
Half time 1-2.
The second half continued as the first, Rovers having plenty of possession but not really creating and Truro looking very slick and dangerous on every attack. The introduction of Noah Coppin on the right wing gave Willand a little more strength & pace in attack but the visitor’s defence continued to hold firm.
On 58 minutes the game was really put to bed by the visitors; Euan Pollock is cleverly put through and skilfully dinks the ball over the advancing Burton. 1-3.
Full time 1-3.
Congratulations to Truro City and good luck in the next round.
