Rovers lose 1-2 at home to promotion chasing Frome Town!

The championship aspirations of Frome Town remain intact after a 2-1 victory in Devon against a spirited Willand Rovers.

As expected, the visitors dominated possession in the first half with front pairing of Kane Simpson and Jon Davis regularly causing problems for the home defence. Their best chances to break the deadlock in the first half fell on 30 minutes when a corner was headed goalward by Mike Baker but was scrambled away by George Burton and the home defence, and then 2 minutes later a Rex Mannings shot was well saved by Burton.

Rovers registered their first shot in the 38th minute when a mis-hit back pass was intercepted by Jack Rice but his shot went wide. Half time 0-0.

The second half started as the first had finished, with Frome continuing to dominate play in the early stages and they deservedly took the lead on 50 minutes with a goal from Jon Davis this was followed soon after on 59 minutes by a second from Mike Baker.

Falling two goals behind spurred Willand into action and they became much more purposeful in attack. Rovers pulled one back on 64 minutes with a strike from Ben Griffiths and continued to threaten the Frome goal. On 70 minutes a thunderbolt from Will Richards was well saved by James Carey in the Frome goal and five minutes later a fierce strike from Glenn Gould went just wide.

The final period of the game saw the visitors on the back foot as Willand continued to press for an equaliser but the Frome defence held firm and saw time out to claim a valuable 3 points in their race for the title.
