Rovers inflict first league defeat on the Larks.
Willand took all three points after a 1-0 victory at Silver Street with Ben Griffith scoring the only goal on 52 minutes.
The first half saw Rovers looking decidedly groggy after their hard fought midweek cup match. A big and strong Larkhall side took early command, looking more cohesive in their approach play and putting the hosts under constant pressure in the first 20 minutes. Willand weathered the storm with Kieran Bailey & Adam Hill making crucial blocks and clearances and George Burton producing a string of fine saves to keep the Larks at bay.
As the first half wore on Rovers started to find their feet and more composure, and created a few opportunities of their own with Archie Reay forcing a great save from a free kick and Noah Coppin getting in good shots but just missing the target.
Ht 0-0, but the Larks certainly having the better of it and creating the best chances.
The second half was a different story: Rovers made a few line-up changes and were much more in the game and now looking more threatening than the visitors. On 52 minutes Noah made a good break down the left and played a great ball in to Ben Griffith; Ben brought the ball ball down and jinked around the defender before slotting calmly past the keeper. 1-0 and Willand now looking on top.
Just 5 minutes later after another rampaging attack by Rovers the ball came out to Noah who struck a fierce volley from 40 yards that the keeper just managed to tip onto the post… what a goal that would have been!
The game opened up in the final 30 minutes with both sides creating chances and being denied by good defending and great goalkeeping, with Burton in particular making a number of fine saves to keep the hosts in front.
In the final 10 minutes the visitors literally threw the kitchen sink at Rovers. The defence held firm though and Willand held on to take the victory.
