Match Report

The last game of the season, with Rovers having secured their Southern League status for next season already, saw Willand earn a point in a 3-3 draw away to Highworth in what was a classic ‘ game of two halves ‘.

Highworth got off to a flying start when left back Mani Roper scored in the 5th minute with a shot from the left hand side to the far post. Willand then had a couple of chances including a Jack Veale shot saved by the keepers legs but we were again undone in the 37th minute when Callum McGhee-Parsons found the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

It then went from bad to worse when a minute later Josh Searle was harshly judged to have handled in the area and Ashley Edenborough stepped up to convert the penalty for a 3-0 lead.

There seemed no way back for Willand but a stiff talking to at half time from the management team and tactical switches of substituting Jack Veale for Callum Chivers & moving Will Richards into midfield were to prove a major turning point. On 52 minutes Ben Griffith made a solo run and slotted the ball in the bottom left hand corner to make it 3-1. On 65 minutes Ben Griffith hit the post but was rewarded on 70 minutes when he headed home as the keeper rushed out to block. Finally on 75 minutes substitute Callum Chivers picked up the ball in his own half, ran down the left and scored with a shot from the edge of the area, 3-3 !!.

Will Richards picked up a yellow card for his tenacious commitment in the second half but great to see the turnaround and a point earned.
