Bishops Lydeard Vs Willand rovers
This weekend Rovers had to travel down the M5 to Bishops Lydeard for another tough match, Lydeard would be looking to put the record straight after coming second in last season’s cup final so Rovers knew they were in for a hard battle, Both team’s started strong with Lydeard playing the long ball but Rovers defence were more than capable to cope with it, There was some great battles in the middle of the park but it was Captain Kieran Fry who got the opening goal on 12 minutes, Lydeard came straight back and created some good chances and were unlucky not to level before the break,
The second half saw Lydeard come out fighting and getting a goal not long after the restart, The game became very tight but it was Rovers midfielder George Mackerness who made a great run down the left and scoring a cracking goal from just inside the 18 yard box, Again Lydeard came back testing Rovers keeper Aaron (safe hands) Marks several times, Rovers made a substitution bringing on Luke Andrews and with 15 minutes to go he made a fantastic run down the right wing firing the ball low and hard across the six yard box for Kieran Fry to finish in style and getting his second of the game, Both teams finished strong but Rovers deserved the points with an excellent all round performance away from home,
Manager Simon Fry said “We knew this was going to be a tough game but the players coped very well there’s a great team spirit here now and the lads are starting to gel they played some lovely football and deserved the result, We have been training hard and it seems to paying off, There’s still a long way to go but we couldn’t of asked for a better start we just need to stay strong and injury free and we will have a good season, Well done lads and I would like to thank the parents for their support and Dom for running the line”
